‘Don’t buy it’ – Kimberly Cross

DontBuyIt-11x17

This piece was a parody of Craig Frazier’s famous poster ‘America open for business‘, which was designed in the wake of September 11, 2001. I like the idea of using patriotism as in using the American flag to sell citizens what they might not otherwise want. I also spot the use of figure ground theory in this piece. The mind interprets the American flag but also interprets it as a handbag.

Child Abuse – Gegen Missbrauch

Gegenabusehand

This poster was designed for the German Anti Abuse Organisation. It was released in 2007. The poster reads ‘More than 300,000 children are sexually abused in Germany every year’. This is a simple yet effective idea. I believe that they want the viewer to understand that child abuse is still a black and white issue. This is an example of figure ground reversal.

This stop the violence poster was designed Bunch Design Agency. The poster displays human skeletal bone fragments arranged in a creative way to resemble the look of an AK47 rifle. The poster explains that ‘Every 43 seconds, someone dies from gun crime’. People can relate and understand the poster concept because skeletal bones are synonymous with death and destruction.
